Creating a course on YOUniversity
Whether you’re new to teaching or already have some content ready, don’t worry! We’ve got you covered. The first thing you need to do is sign up as an instructor on YOUniversity.

Step 1: Plan your course
Before you dive into recording, it’s essential to plan your course content thoughtfully. This way, you’ll have a clear idea of what you want to teach and who your audience is. The best way to plan your course, is to use a storyboard, similar to what is used in the film industry. Download our free storyboard files below. The fields are fillable using most PDF readers.
- Select your topic: You can teach almost anything you’re passionate about, as long as you follow the YOUniversity’s Content Guidance.
- Identify intended learners: Knowing your target audience helps tailor your course to their needs and ensures a more engaging learning experience.
- Create learning objectives and course outline: Setting clear objectives and organizing your course content will make learning more structured and effective for your students.
- Create and practice your script: Engaging and enthusiastic instructors are loved by learners! So, prepare and rehearse your script to keep your energy levels up throughout your lectures.
Step 2: Produce your course
Ready to bring your course to life? Let’s get started with the recording process!
- Choose your equipment and create your recording space: Don’t worry if you’re new to audio/video equipment. We’ll guide you in setting up your recording space for the best learning experience. Check out our list of recommended audio and video equipment.
- Quality assessment: Follow our Course Quality Self-assessment guide to make sure you’re on the right path to create quality lessons.
- Submit a Test Video: Before you officially start recording, take advantage of our free Test Video service to get personalized feedback and ensure your production meets our quality standards. While creating your course, simply upload your first video and publish the course. Our Support Team will audit the video quality and provide helpful feedback.
- And action!: Once you’re confident with your test video and recording setup, it’s time to start recording your lessons. You’re all set to create a fantastic course!
Step 3: Refine your course
After recording, it’s time to add the finishing touches to your course and make it shine!
- Upload completed course videos: Share your final course videos along with any learning materials.
- Add all course info: Craft a compelling course summary, create an appealing course image, write your instructor bio, set the course price, and perform a thorough review before submitting.
Step 4: Publish your course
Ready to share your knowledge with the world? Let’s get your course out there for learners to benefit from!
- Submit your course for review: Our quality review process ensures that all courses provide an excellent learning experience. Don’t worry; we’re here to help you meet our standards!
- Update and publish your course: Our team will evaluate your course and provide feedback if needed. Make any necessary edits, and once approved, your course will be live on Youniversity.
